Defying thedoom scroll.
I’m ditching the endless cycle of complacent, media consumption and creating things that spark delight instead of depression; asking questions instead of adding to the idle echo chamber; finding actionable ways to rebel, resist, and make good trouble (as John Lewis would say).
I’m dumping the doom scrolling and using illustration and design to delightfully defy.
Being Delightfully Defiant is creating joy in the face of fear.
breaking the rules.
These are four of the stories that have been sold to us for generations as truths, as fundamental social principles that are both necessary and inevitable. These are the silent laws used to divide, degrade, and distract us — to keep us complicit — so a small few can take without restraint or resistance. These are the rules I’m breaking.
Different is dangerous
This fabricated fear is the backbone of racism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, ableism, and every other system used to oppress those who check any boxes outside of the majority.
Money matters more
When the bank accounts and portfolios of the rich are prioritized over our environment, our futures, our welfare, and our lives, then paper and numbers on a screen matter more than anything, including us.
The art here is free.
Not the self-serving “free” that’s really just an incentive to snag your info. It’s the regular, old-fashion kind of free.
While I’m usually super against Creatives (not AI tourists) giving their work away for free because I think we’re already painfully under-valued, we aren’t exactly living in usual times. Shit’s a mess out there and waiting idly for someone else to fix it while I scroll on my phone isn’t exactly an option. I don’t have lots of money to throw at problems, peopling is definitely not something I do well, and pulling “a Luigi” isn’t exactly my style — but I can make things that inspire, provoke thought, and, hopefully, make my small corner of the world a little more delightful (and defiant).
That being said, I’m not cool with people taking advantage, so hit that pretty button below and read the do’s and don’ts for using the artwork.
Start defying.
